Emerging whole
The
emerging whole is the result of an emergence process
?, but cannot be restricted to it. An
emerging whole appears when interacting agents of the system produce a homogeneous emerging entity that has new behavioral properties that are particular to the new system.
Ken Wilber would say it
transcends and
includes the complexity levels under it (holons
?).
Emerging whole in collective intelligence
It is one of the seven properties of
original collective intelligence. For now we will keep an empirical use of this expression, the one that everyone has experienced in his life when a group of people shows a high degree of harmony and cohesion.
Examples can be a jazz band, a sports team, a corporate team, a commando… Such groups have their own
personality, a
style, a
spirit to which we refer as if they were an individuality with its own properties. Just like the
fingers in the hand, it is the coordination and synchronization of the agents within the system (the fingers) that makes the whole a hand.
When we emphasize the success, the quality and the unity of a group, it is our way to express the fact that this Whole appears obviously and strongly.
